Player Stories

What Racquet War Players Say

Featured Player Story

"After 20 Racquet Wars, I can say that is one of my favorite things to do. The employees that run the tournaments are top notch and do their best to ensure you have great matches. Although the weather may not always participate they do their best to get the matches in and finished, but again with 20 behind me, I've had weather hinder probably 5 of them and usually only for a few hours. I cannot recommend RW enough, if you want a fun competitive experience to improve your tennis game without the stress of USTA ratings then this is the event for you."

Torrie Kline

Lake Conroe, 2025

“"My Wife and I attend Racquet War with another couple. We really enjoy the entertainment and also playing new people, rather than the same old people we play in our local area. We have met a lot of new friends as well. I highly recommend racquet War."”

Jon Miller

Amelia Island, 2025

“"We had an amazing time at the Racquet Wars tournament at Saddlebrook in Tampa. The event was very organized and well run. The competition was great. We competed in women's doubles but I would also bring my husband to a future tournament."”

Gina Goetz

Saddlebrook, 2026

“"I had the BEST tennis vacation in the gorgeous Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort. It was my first time at Racquet War and the staffs were super friendly and helpful. Nora was always smiling and helpful, Drew (tournament director) was so fun to be around, Josh was always the motivator for all of us to have a good time. I didn’t know anyone at the beginning of the tournament but at the end of the weekend I ended up with so many good friends and lots of incredible memories. Can’t wait to go back again at another Racquet War experience!"”

FAQ

Common Questions

Do I have to stay on resort/property to play?+
No. Many local players participate without accommodations. Entry fees for tournament-only play vary by city but the clinic and party can be added on.
How many matches will I play each day?+
Typically, Friday starts with two 8-game pro sets, which help determine placement for the rest of the weekend. From there, teams play through either a bracket or round-robin format, depending on the size and structure of the draw. Players are guaranteed 4-5 matches over the weekend, with some teams playing additional matches as they advance. Semifinals and finals may take place on Saturday or Sunday, depending on the draw. The format is designed to give everyone a full, competitive weekend of tennis while still keeping the schedule enjoyable and leaving time for the social side of Racquet War.
Should I arrive Thursday or Friday?+
Matches start at 8:00 AM Friday (Thursday for Bahamas). If you can't drive in Friday morning, plan to arrive Thursday night. About 80% of resort guests stay Thursday through Sunday.
What comes with accommodation packages?+
All packages include accommodations, resort fees, tournament registration, the Friday social immediately following the matches, Thursday clinic (weather permitting), Racquet War towel, team photo, and all taxes. Cancun packages are all-inclusive with all food and drinks.
Can I play in two events?+
No. Women's and mixed matches can overlap in the schedule, so it isn't possible to play in both events. Playing two events could also mean 8–9 matches over the weekend, with the possibility of up to four matches in a single day, which is more tennis than we want players taking on.
What is the waterfall bracket format?+
All teams play two 8-game no-ad pro sets to determine skill level, then are placed into brackets with similarly skilled teams. Partner with anyone — NTRP ratings don't matter.
What does waitlist only mean?+
When a tournament shows waitlist only, you're paying to hold a spot on the waitlist — not guaranteed entry. You'll be fully refunded if you don't get in. Email info@racquetwar.com to check your status.
What should I expect after I register?+
After registering, players receive confirmation and follow-up information from Racquet War. The Player Guide explains what happens after registration, trip planning, clinics, draws, weekend format, dress-up themes, match timing, and other important tournament details.
What is the refund and cancellation policy?+
Refund rules differ for domestic and international tournaments and depend on how close the event is and whether draws have been posted.
What about rain & defaults?+
Unfortunately, Racquet War cannot control Mother Nature. In all the years we have been running our events, there has only been one weekend completely cancelled due to weather. Amelia Island, FL (2017) was disrupted by Hurricane Irma. But from time to time, we encounter rain that delays us for a couple of hours or sometimes it is a complete washout for the day. Please know that we ALWAYS do our best to provide the players as much court time as possible. The RW team and the pros at each facility work in conjunction to make this all happen. The worst case scenario is when it rains us out on Sunday and we obviously do not have the time to make up the matches. We must not only keep in mind the players who are wanting to play, but also the players who have already made travel plans for later in the day. If this circumstance does happen, we sincerely apologize, as it is not the way we would like our events to end. As much as we would like to give refunds or even partial refunds, it simply does not calculate out for us to be able to do that as our expenses are locked in for the weekend. We hope all of you can understand! One unavoidable thing in all events, especially some of our larger tournaments are defaults. We try as hard as possible to prevent these but people get hurt or things happen out of their control and certainly ours. We always do our best to backfill missing teams, but it is obviously a difficult task on such short notice. If you are one of the unfortunate players to get a default (it will happen), just know we are disappointed as well. The Racquet War experience, besides the competitive tennis, is a fun weekend with friends filled with exciting events, lots of laughs, and a memorable time overall.
